This is called a challenge for a reason, right?
G is for General Zaroff.
While I'm sure Richard Connell's short story, "The Most Dangerous Game," wasn't exactly intended for young adult audiences, it's a story we study in my middle school Literacy class. Because of it, he counts as a YA character....at least for the purposes of this post.
General Zaroff is evil. He hunts humans for sport because he likes the challenge. He is arrogant, racist, conniving, intimidating, intelligent, and witty. The best (and creepiest) part about him though is that he thinks he is civilized. He even calls himself an "affable host." His self-proclaimed charm and Connell's physical comparisons between Zaroff and the devil make him one of the most sinister characters I can think of.
Anyone remember this classic? I love this story - largely because of General Zaroff.
