Better Late Than Never

I'm squeezing in last second with my IWSG post. I adore Alex J. Cavanaugh and my IWSG friends too much to skip out several months in a row and get kicked out...better late than never.

Today I'm airing out my New Year's Resolutions. Yes, it's February and New Year's Day was forever ago, but I'm hoping we can just tiptoe past that and let it cleverly fit in with today's theme. Right?

NY Resolutions:
1. I'm 10,000 words into my next MS. I hope to have a strong rough draft by the end of the year, with the high hope of sending out queries in early 2015.
2. I'd love to find one more CP that I mesh well with - preferably a female who loves YA. I LOVE my current CP's and Betas, but they are mostly male. I'd love another female perspective. (This one is for much, much, much later in the year when I have a bit more time to be a good CP myself).
3. Complete 15 credit hours by July...not difficult, just time consuming.
4 As always, give each of my boys the love, support, and attention they all individually need. This is listed 4th, but - as always - reigns first in priority. Today is Baby Boy#1's 4th birthday. For those of you who've been around for a while, perhaps you already know - it's a wonderful, emotional day. I'm very proud of my sweet birthday boy.

I'm excited for this year. I have a good feeling good things are to come.

Happy (much belated) New Year IWSG!

  2. Happy birthday to your son!
Glad you're on a roll with a new manuscript. Hope you find another critique partner. There are a lot of young adult writers who are women, so you shouldn't have a problem with that.

  4. First, happy birthday to your son. Four. That is a great age. They are just so darn cute at that age. They think the funniest things, which leads to them SAYING the funniest things. In some ways, it would be nice if we could retain that innocence the whole of our lives. Ah well.

Sounds like you've got a nice start on your MS. Way to go!!!

Critique Partners. I haven't even begun the search for looking (yet), but I am nearing the end of my WiP and I am going to have to begin. I have heard that it isn't always easy to find the right fit. I think I will add that to my prayer list. I prefer it when things just "come together." I am a big believer in Ask and It Is Given.

I am also excited for this year and believe that good things are coming! Doesn't that feel wonderful????

  5. Well-rounded and well-balanced goals. I wish you all the best, Kimberly. I have a boy, turning 16 soon, who has an emotional birthday like yours.

  6. Happy birthday to your little man! I just know he has a wonderful future ahead of him!

One can never have enough great CPs. I'd love to work together on another book when you're ready. Just give me a holler if you're interested. I'm happy to hear you're back in the game where you belong.

  7. Yes, always better late than never . . . I bet I say that on a weekly basis to my middle school students (and you probably do too!). Happy*4th*B-day to your son. I miss that age. My youngest just turned 10 and my other daughter turned 13 this past June--those were especially emotional b-days for me! And if you'd like a CP, I'm always game. I had 3 for 18 Truths, but I'd really like another one for 18 Thoughts since it's the last book in the trilogy and I want it to be the BEST :-) Glad to see you posting today!

  8. It's a long hard road, but your plan seems reasonable. Good luck!

  9. Keep me in mind for CPing. I can assure you that I am not a male. :)

I gotta do those continuing education things too. (I assume that's what you meant by the credit hours thing.) We have 30 hours every 2 years, for engineering. That means I have to go to at least one conference otherwise I'm screwed. Two is preferable. But even so that only gives me 8 hours generally. I can do the online stuff, but that costs money of course.

  10. I'd love to volunteer but I'm not really a YA reader. Hope you find the perfect one.
