P is for Peeta

P is for Peeta

Just like there has been a trend with tough girl heroines, there has been a tend in their love interests as well. I feel like sometimes I'm reading the about same character over and over again with a different name in a different book. NOT that I'm complaining - I love actually "that character." Gale in Hunger Games fits that love interest mold. Peeta does not.

While Peeta is strong, bright, charming, protective, and adores Katniss, he's also sensitive and creative. I love that he is a talented cake decorator. That detail alone sets him apart. I love the contrast between Gale and Peeta in the HG series. I love that I'm Team Peeta throughout the series even though Gale feels like the better fit for Katniss.

P is for Perplexing too....
Strange weather today in the Chicago area - terrible flooding. I've driven through plenty of bad snow storms, but the rain and flooding made today's drive the scariest drive to work I've ever had. Weird, huh?

I hope you all stay dry.

  1. I agree about the part where characters sound the same. But then every writer has a unique voice so even if the characters do match, they don't.
    Perplexing? Yeahh...

  3. I adore Peeta. What a guy!

And I'm in Detroit and the storms are coming our way- a little nervous!

  4. I think that at first sight Gale feels like the better fit, but the reality is that Gale and Katniss are both Fire Characters. They would be a very stormy couple at all times. It takes a while for Katniss to see it, but Peeta is a person with the capacity to truly love everything about her and when she blows, as she will, he is able to settle that fire. He is a calming influence, while Gale is most certainly NOT. I guess I don't have to tell you that I am most definitely Team Peeta, too:)

  5. I was on Team Peeta, too, and I was very happy with how the end turned out. Peeta's a great character.

Rain and flooding has made for some of my scariest drives, too. Stay safe!

  6. Great choice for P and a very good point that lots of love interests feel the same.

  7. Life is a series of the unremarkable dotted with moments of remarkable. Love is the same and as we are all the same in our differences, love trends will tend to follow the same pattern.

Good grief that sounds convoluted. I hope you understand what I mean...

    Be careful in the storms.

  8. Hey Buttercup! Coincidentally I did a post on Pres Snow today. :)
I was mixed the whole way thru and flopped back and forth between Peeta and Gale. At the end, I was rooting for Gale, but I think Collins did a perfect job of justifying Katniss' choice of Peeta.

  9. I love Peeta. Collins created such great characters and I really enjoyed the performance by Josh Hucherson. I just recently watched Red Dawn and had trouble not seeing him as Peeta...although he did a great job playing Robert, too. Great to meet you- was sent over from Alex's blog :)happy a to z.

  11. Peeta was pretty much the only thing that got me to pick up the second and third books and stick with the series. He was undoubtedly the best and most interesting character (well, and Haymitch).

  13. Hey Buttercup, how does it feel to be Alex's Princess Bride? What a cool honour and how tickled you must be. Any friend of the Ninja is a friend of mine, so howdy!

  14. Just finished reading book one of HG and watching the movie not long ago. Have to admit, the book was way better than the movie. Looking forward to reading more.

  18. Peeta? I know of the spelling Peter... is it a derivative of sorts?
Perplexing is a good choice for a P word.

  20. I agree with the name Peeta. Not my fave. But I loved his character.
I live in the Memphis area and we had some major rain last night and our road flooded. I found your blog through LD Masterson's! Have a great weekend!

  22. Yes Peeta doesn't fit the love interest mold...he's different- I found myself liking him sometimes and not liking him at other times.
