I is for Ishmael Ichabod Iko.
I really wanted I to be for Ishmael. But I don't remember Ishmael enough to adequately analyze him - even in a few sentences. Truth be told, I hated Moby Dick - and the character that kept me reading was Captain Ahab...what a great character.
My classes read excerpts from The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. But Irving's mood and setting are more fun (for me) to analyze than Ichabod's characterization - not that he isn't a great character.
How about Iko from Cinder because I just finished the book and LOVED it. My middle school students will also be Skyping with Marissa Meyer next week. I'm really looking forward to it. I'm dying to ask her My students are dying to ask her questions about her book.
Iko is Cinder's spikey android BFF. Iko has a malfunction in her chip that gives her this opinionated personality. Who doesn't love the sharp-tongued sidekick that tells it like it is? We all need one of those, don't we? If nothing else, she adds humor to tense situations. A character like her is a perfect minor character to add to any story.

I didn't like Moby Dick either. And Iko's a great choice. I loved her in Cinder. How awesome your class is skyping with Marissa Meyer. They and you are SO lucky!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read Moby Dick or Cinder. ;) I think both are on my TBR!
ReplyDeleteVisiting from A to Z, thanks.
ReplyDeleteAh, I haven't read Cinder yet. I think I'm the last person in bloggerland to hold out. Not that I'm holding out, I just haven't picked it up yet.
ReplyDeleteLoving your characters this month!!!
Oh dear - I haven't read Cinder. I wasn't crazy about Moby Dick. But I did like the TV movie version starring Patrick Stewart.
ReplyDeleteIko is my favorite android for sure. I loved Cinder and Scarlet

Not a fan of Moby Dick either.
ReplyDeleteA sharp-tongued android sounds like a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteOh Iko!!! My heart just went thump in my chest. I remember exactly how I felt about this android when I read Cinder (last year) and all that emotion just came back.
ReplyDeleteHard to forget about Iko. Really hard.
Moby Dick is the WORST! I'm glad you went with Iko instead. =]
ReplyDeleteOnce again, you're killing me with the strike-throughs. :) I smile each and EVERY time I see one of those. I hope the Skype interview goes well! Sounds like a blast. I wish my kids had you for their middle school English teacher.
ReplyDeleteDana at Waiter, drink please!
I love the sound of Iko. I haven't read Cinder; now I'll have to track it down. Moby Dick I managed to avoid. Btw, I like your blog title. I wondered what it meant before landing on your doorstep.
